Arthritis

Arthritis is a medical term used to refer to a group of conditions which affect the joints of the body.

Arthritis comes from the combination of two Greek words:

  • ‘Arthro’, which means joints,
  • ‘Itis’, which means inflammation or swelling.

Arthritis is thus the general medical term used to describe various conditions that have to do with inflammation of the joints. Though arthritis is one of the common medical terms used, there are actually different types of arthritis. There is a host of conditions that fall under the category arthritis. There are, however, some primary and most common types, which are described below.
